Streamscapes Project: Water Quality Survey with the Limerick County Council

6th class got further lessons on Biodiversity during May.  The Limerick County Council included our school in the Streamscapes Project. We learned about how to tell is a river is polluted through the creatures that live in the water. We visited the Loobagh and found plenty of mayfly, caddis and stone fly. This would indicate that the water quality of the Loobagh was quite good. We estimated it at 4.3 out of a possible 5.

We learned about various types of pollution that affect our rivers-everything from birds choking on plastic to household bleach and detergents.
We also learned that less that 1% of the water in the world is actually available to us to use.  We looked at water usage in the home and how to conserve this valuable resource.
